| Solly, Get It Wrong It's Alright ![]() Label: Zounds Sounds Released: 2005
A veteran of buzz bands the Clowns, Perfect, and Clumsy, Marc Solomon is generating new excitement for his latest creation, Solly. With delightful, guitar-driven emo-rock like that on Solly's debut album, Get It Wrong It's Alright, that murmur could soon crescendo into a roar. Solomon's versatile voice and dynamic guitar comprise the heart of Solly, augmented by Robert Cooper on bass, Chad Stockslager on keyboards, and David Mabry on drums. Together the band shifts styles with ease, from the Tripping Daisy-like "Welcome Down" to the sun-drenched coastal rock of "Dip in the Pool," from the trippy mood ride that is "All That" to the thrash-metal of "And Now…." Comparisons to the Replacements are sure to abound. After all, Replacements co-founder Tommy Stinson played with Solomon and Cooper in Perfect. But Solomon's pipes can't match Paul Westerberg's. And overall, Solly shows early signs of greater sonic depth. Solly has the potential to become something special, perhaps the first significant band to emerge from the Dallas area since the Polyphonic Spree. Marc Solomon and company didn't get it wrong, and it's more than just alright. April 04, 2005 |
